Retired Teacher Sentenced to Three Years in Prison in Iran

Masoumeh Asgari, a 55-year-old retired teacher, has been sentenced to three years in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Judge Iman Afshari presided over the case and found Asgari guilty of “propaganda through collaboration with anti-government groups” and “membership in opposition groups.”

The verdict has been officially communicated to her.

Asgari was arrested by intelligence forces in August 2024 and held in solitary confinement for two months in Ward 209, the Ministry of Intelligence detention center within Evin Prison.

She was transferred to the women’s ward on September 25, 2024.

Sources close to the case report that Asgari suffers from multiple health conditions, including diabetes, kidney and liver issues, and neurological complications.

The retired teacher, who is the head of her household and a mother of one, has previously faced detention and sentencing for her civil activities.
